In the comparison of phospho-MeCP2-S421 staining in PDR membranes with the expression of phospho-MeCP2-S421 in IEM, 32 (97%) PDR membranes were moderately to strongly stained for phospho-MeCP2-S421, whereas most of the IEM (82%) were only mildly stained, the difference was markedly significant ( supplementary Table 2 ; P < 0.001).
