y.[ 11 , 12 , 13 ] These differences can be related to the diets and lifestyles of the people in various regions.[ 12 ] The worldwide prevalence of choledocholithiasis concomitant with gallstones is approximately 3–10%.[ 14 ] In Western countries, this figure was more in the last three decades with an increasing trend up to 20%.[ 9 , 15 , 16 , 17 ] The incidence of silent CBDSs in a nonjaundiced patient with normal ducts on transabdominal ultrasound was reported 4%, and only 15% of these patients showed complication.[ 18 ] However, ultrasonography (US) is a noninvasive and safe method for clinical diagnosis of CBDS, but there are many undiagnosed subjects.
