A highly significant reduction in the local recurrence rate at 5 years (4.3% vs. 6.8%) in patients that were administered a boost dose of 16 Gy to the tumour bed in addition of 50 Gy whole breast irradiation in BCT, especially in women younger than 50 years, was confirmed in a large randomized trial [ 1 ].
