The relationship between SCH and serum lipids remains controversial.[ 3 ] In several cross-sectional studies, SCH was found to be associated with a variable and somewhat inconsistent increase in TC and in LDL-C,[ 13 ] higher plasma oxidized LDL-C levels,[ 14 ] and inconsistent changes in serum levels of HDL-C.[ 15 ] In the Busselton study, serum TC was significantly higher in cases with SCH than in euthyroid controls, but the difference was barely significant after adjustment for age and sex.[ 16 ] The TC in our study Group 1 was somewhat higher than from control groups; it was statistically insignificant.
