There was a highly significant ( p < 0.001) decrease in the ratio of Rb to K in the AD group (Fig. 2c ), though ROC analysis revealed changes in all three measures were less robust (though still statistically significant) indicators of AD than total Rb and K in brain homogenates (AUC K = 0.569; AUC Rb = 0.575; AUC Rb:K = 0.6115; Additional file 1 : Figure S1).
