Within stepwise forward multivariate Cox regression analyses adjusting for KPS, tumour grading, number of metastatic sites, stage of disease and cytoplasmic SPARC expression, KPS group was the only independent prognostic factor for OS (HR 1.483, 95%CI 1.012–2.174, P =0.043), whereas cytoplasmic SPARC expression remained borderline significant (HR 1.454, 95%CI 0.977–2.212, P =0.052).
