From the figures obtained, it became evident that complete rest in bed after the onset of the major illness (meningitic stage) reduced the chances of severe paralysis to a highly significant degree, whereas there was no such correlation between the amount of physical activity taken before the onset of " meningitic " symptoms and the degree of paralysis.
