The results of the mixed-effects models show that grade 8 teachers’ level of implementation of the booster session was significantly related to grade 8 student improvements in reproductive health skills, condom use self-efficacy, and intention to use protections (skills: β = 0.24, SE = 0.08, p,0.01; self-efficacy: β = 0.22, SE = 0.07, p < 0.01; intention: β = 0.35, SE = 0.11, p,0.001); the relationship of the students’ HIV/AIDS knowledge with grade 8 teacher implementation of the booster sessions was marginally significant (Additional file 3 ).
