This observation is highly significant in that FLIM can be used as a non-invasive characterisation method to elucidate the metabolic kinetics in 3D in vitro models; therefore, suggesting a future usability of FLIM to various applications including the screening of pharmaceutical reagents and novel drug candidates on 3D cell-based in vitro assays.
