The analysis of randomised trials included more than 4600 children studied over 9–12 months of intervention, and its findings showed no evidence of any beneficial effect on weight-for-age or weight-for-height and only a marginally significant effect on height-for-age of less than a tenth of a standard deviation (0·08 Z score, 95% CI 0·00–0·16).
