and the Stockholm trial initially showed no reduction in death rate among women aged 40–49 years on entry who were screened.[ 32 , 33 ] However, updated results published in 2011 with three decades of follow up, on the Swedish two county trial have suggested that mammographic screening results in a highly significant decrease in breast cancer-specific mortality and the number of breast cancer deaths prevented increased with the increasing time of follow-up.
