In patients with intermittent claudication, we observed a highly significant inverse correlation between the marker of inflammation triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 (TREM-1) with the absolute as well as the pain-free walking distance, a positive correlation with whole blood oxidative burst (measured by L-012 chemiluminescence) and fibrinogen, representing a general marker of inflammation, whereas for C-reactive protein (CRP) only a trend for a relationship was observed ( Fig. 3 ) [25] .
