INTRODUCTION Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a serious burden that significantly diminishes the quality-of-life of the female patients and its treatment is associated with a high cost.[ 1 ] The incidence of POP shows an increasing trend.[ 2 ] Women in the United States have 11% lifetime risk of being diagnosed with POP or urinary incontinence, and around 200.000 surgical procedures are being performed for the treatment of POP annually.[ 3 ] Among several surgical techniques that are available for the treatment of POP, open abdominal sacrocolpopexy (ASC) has been documented as the gold standard surgical treatment.
