A highly significant reduction of the inhibitory effect of miR-BHRF1-1 was observed when the RNF4-3’UTR seed sequence TCAGGTT was mutated to T ACA GTT whereas a weaker but still significant reduction was observed with the TCA ATC T mutant ( Fig 5B ), which may be due to different effects of the mutations on the affinity of binding to the RNF4 mRNA.
