Observationally, there was a statistically significant trend for a higher risk of Parkinson’s disease across categories of lower LDL cholesterol levels (P=0.009 for categories and P=0.001 for fifths), but at most a borderline significant association between continuous LDL cholesterol levels and Parkinson’s disease (hazard ratio for a 1 mmol/L lower LDL cholesterol level was 1.10 (95% confidence interval 1.00 to 1.21); P=0.05).
