Compared to the highest tertile of total drinking years, men in the lowest tertile had a marginally significant increased risk (OR 2.16, 95% CI 0.98–4.78, p for trend <0.05) and, similarly, men reporting ever abstaining compared to those who never abstained had increased prostate cancer risk (OR 1.79, 95% CI 1.05–3.03).
