More importantly in the context of our study, while neither the families of mosquitoes nor the parasites differed in their average responses to all of their partners, the interaction between mosquito family and parasite isolate (an estimation of the genotype by genotype interaction) had a highly significant effect on the likelihood and the intensity of infection (family by isolate effect, Table 1 ).
