There was a highly significant correlation between pathway abundance and species distance matrices ( r = 0.299, P = 0.002; Table 1 ) from the metagenomic data. 16S rRNA genera versus metagenomic species and 16S rRNA versus metabolites had the second and third highest correlation values ( r = 0.117, P = 0.067; r = 0.103, P = 0.039), respectively.
