Multivariable Cox regression modeling was used to determine whether the association between these five proteins with outcome was independent of potential confounders, including age, gender, race, stage (IA and IB), and smoking status (Table 2 ): IL-6 (HR, 2.34; 95% CI, 1.14-4.79) and IL-17A (HR, 2.10; 95% CI, 1.02-4.32) were independently associated with outcome, CRP (HR, 1.81; 95% CI, 0.90-3.65); was of borderline significance after adjustment for race, which is possibly a reflection of the differential expression of CRP by race [ 25 ].
