Measuring Fe 2+ -evoked currents at different pH values showed that WT was not completely saturable with H + , in contrast, the E193D mutant was saturated already at pH 6.5, as also reflected by the highly significant decrease in the apparent K 0.5 for H + (≈0.11 μM) (Fig. 7C ), being in agreement with our previous results (Fig. 5B and C ).
