Quantitative image analysis confirms the highly significant enrichment of DHS[+] segments indicating active TREs in low chromatin compaction classes 2 and 3 and of DHS[−] segments (inactive TREs) in high compaction classes 5 and 6 ( p < 0.001 for classes 2/3 and 5/6) (Fig. 4 b, c).
