An increasing trend in proportional mortality attributed to cardiovascular diseases has been reported in India as well, with an increase from 20.6% deaths in 1990 to 29.0% in 2013. 1 This increase is mainly due to increase in prevalence of various modifiable risk factors of CVDs like dyslipidemias, smoking, diabetes, hypertension, abdominal obesity, psychosocial stress, unhealthy diet, and physical inactivity.
