Third, and critically, the correlation is highly significant even if we define the pedigree diversity directly based on the combinations of base-contacting residues, rather than based on predicted DNA triplets (Additional file 1 : Figure S8d), i.e. pedigrees with high-DBF-score non-base-contacting residues contain more diverse base-contacting residue combinations, regardless of the predicted motifs.
