Based on previous National Health and Morbidity Surveys (NHMSs) carried out in 2006, 2011 and 2015, an increasing trend of overweight and obesity prevalence was observed among Malaysian adults aged 18 years and older: 29.1% (95% CI: 28.6–29.7) and 14.5% (95% CI: 13.6–14.5) in 2006 [ 15 ], 29.4% (95% CI: 28.4–30.4) and 15.1% (95% CI: 14.3–15.9) in 2011 [ 16 ], 30.0% (95% CI: 29.1–31.0) and 17.7% (95% CI: 16.9–18.5) in 2015, respectively [ 17 ].
