Although there are variations in trends and risk factors of suicide among countries in the southeast Asia region, compared to Western countries, the region as whole has higher suicide rates, lower gender (male-to-female) suicide rate gap, higher rates among the elderly, and an increasing trend of youth suicides [ 5 , 7 ].
