A highly significant increase in such variations was observed in the ventricular heart tissue between young (6 months) and old (27 months) male mice for several nuclear genes (seven housekeeping genes, three heart-specific genes, and two protease-encoding genes), but not for three mitochondrial genes [ 51 ].
