This study revealed that the inflammatory response may be significant from the early stages of the infection, probably due to the role of Wolbachia spp. and the vascular damage caused by the adult worms in the pulmonary arteries, taking into consideration that the lesions begin immediately upon arrival of the parasites and worsen with the chronicity of the disease [ 4 , 104 ].
