Given that the random and dynamic expression of RME genes potentially generates a mosaic expression signature, the ratio between cells expressing mutant alleles versus wild-type alleles in various tissues or organs, together with the timing of these expression patterns at specific developmental stages, are likely to be significant factors in autosomal dominant diseases with regards to their penetrance and expressivity ( Figure 2 ).
