Cytometrical analysis of liver sections by β-catenin/Hoechst-33342 immunohistochemistry, quantifying nuclear size and number per cell, revealed that both nuclear and cellular polyploidization are accelerated in Per- null CMH, characterized by a highly significant increase in 8n binuclear (2 × 8n) cells as well as 16n mononuclear hepatocytes in the centrilobular zone (Fig. 2a–e ).
