Third, while there is a decreasing trend of HPAI H5N1 outbreaks in south and southeast Asia, emergence of these new subtypes in China and South Korea have caused very significant epizootics leading to an increase in the total number of HPAI outbreaks in comparison to the 2004–2011 period.
