DISCUSSION This study shows that the implementation of a bundle of measures to prevent VAP ( 24 ) in Spanish ICUs was associated with a highly significant reduction of VAP from 9.83 episodes during the baseline period to 4.34 episodes per 1,000 days of mechanical ventilation in the last 3 months of the intervention period (55.8% reduction).
