Conclusion The retrieved studies show a highly significant correlation between higher caries prevalence in preschool children with higher levels of microbials, such as mutans streptococci, C. albicans and Prevotella spp., and salivary proteins, including IgA, IgG immunoglobulins, PRP and histatin peptides, in saliva compared with caries-free individuals.
