29 Fourthly, when a TELP is introduced, there is a highly significant reduction in medical harms in hospital, primarily due to avoiding inappropriate interventions. 30 Finally, when advance planning (TELP or ACP) is used, there is significantly greater concordance between a patient’s preferences and the care that is delivered, and this is associated with a reduction in levels of anxiety and depression experienced by their family members. 31 Conclusion No single intervention in itself improves quality of care for patients with progressive respiratory disease, especially towards the end of life.
