Overcoming this challenge would be extremely significant: (1) it will allow us to directly analyze various aspects of already-matured spinal MNs in vitro ; (2) we will be able to compare and study, for the first time in vitro , spinal MNs from different stages of maturity (e.g., neonatal vs. adult vs. aged) or diseases (e.g., pre-symptomatic vs. post-symptomatic); and (3) it will serve as a novel cell source for drug screening.
