The average daily nectar volume before stigma exposure, that is, in the first 2 days of anthesis, was significantly higher than that after stigma exposure (before: 13.9 ± 8.0 μl, N = 52; after: 8.5 ± 6.2 μl, N = 89; Z = −3.93, p < .001), indicating a highly significant difference in the rate (volume per unit time) of nectar production between male and female phases (Figure 6 ).
