In this light, it is perhaps not surprising that immunization with the truncated version resulted in a significantly stronger antibody response towards the recombinant gp140CFI protein, which is not a tightly folded antigen, and only a small, barely significant increase in binding to trimeric Env purified from VLPs [ 16 ].
