In the postmenopausal subset of breast cancer patients, bisphosphonate use (of any type, oral or intravenous), prescribed shortly after diagnosis, was associated with highly significant reductions in all recurrences as well as bone recurrences, and in breast cancer mortality, whereas no such benefit was seen in the premenopausal subset [ 6 ].
