After adjustment for preconception, antepartum and intrapartum risk factors (detailed in table 3 ), several markers of infection or inflammation were found to be highly significant risk factors for NE, including neonatal bacteraemia, histological funisitis and raised maternal and early neonatal CRP ( table 3 ).
