Despite an overall trend of declining use of lithium for the treatment of bipolar disorder in the United States [11] , our survey results suggest that a majority of VA psychiatrists continue to prescribe lithium for appropriate patients with bipolar disorder on a regular basis (i.e., occasionally to fairly often).
