Upregulated genes also include highly significant amounts of transcription factors and chromatin remodelling factors (including the immediate-early genes Egr1 and Npas4 that have an increased expression level by about 50% in Ptchd1 −/y mice, Supplementary Table S3 ) and appeared to be markedly implicated in the development of the central nervous system ( Figures 4c and d ).
