A worrying trend that has arisen among the diabetic community, however, is for the reuse of insulin needles and lancets despite warnings over the possibility of infection and the fact that each use leads to the mechanical deformation of the needle tip, which increases tissue scarring (lipodystrophy) and can increase the risk of metallic fracture and fragments being left in the skin [ 25 ].
