Other than direct biomedical applications (e.g., photothermal therapy, photoacoustic imaging, image-guided therapy, and drug delivery) the ability of these anisotropic plasmonic nanostructures to extend plasmonic resonance beyond visible wavelengths was found to be extremely significant for technologies related to high-efficiency solar cells, infrared photodetectors, heat-absorbing optical coatings, and sensors.
