Consistent with an association between PLK1 expression and polyploidy, we observed a highly significant difference in levels of PLK1 expression in tumors which exhibited evidence of having undergone a genome doubling event during their evolution compared to their non-doubled counterparts (Fig. 8a , p = 4.62e-09, t -test).
