A final model included 13 highly significant independent predictors of mortality in the following order of predictive strength: age, lower ejection fraction, NYHA class, serum creatinine, diabetes, no prescription of a beta-blocker, lower systolic blood pressure, lower body mass, time since diagnosis, current smoker, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, male sex, and no prescription of an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor or angiotensin-receptor blocker.
