In contrast to the lack of effect on steady-state levels of PIns, FLUO inhibited the rate of incorporation of 3 H-inositol into PI, PIP and PIP 2 compared with controls; each of these highly significant ( p < 0.005) decreases indicated by the symbol (φ) was directly proportional to the decrease in the steady-state level of inositol (the average decrease in the five components in Figs. 3a, c, d was 45 ± 2%).
