Discussion Opioids sales in community pharmacies in Italy showed a positive trend in the period 2000–2010 ( Figure 1 ), in agreement with the trend observed in the European Union. 7 , 21 Although regulatory interventions impacted sales in both community pharmacies and hospitals, 10 the sales in community pharmacies are particularly interesting for determining the role of a less stringent regulation for opioids prescription.
