The Anglo-Scandinavian Outcomes Trial (ASCOT)-the Lipid Lowering arm (LLA) of the trial is an example of an IIS, where atorvastatin was shown to have a highly significant reduction in coronary events relative to placebo.[ 1 ] The results of ASCOT-LLA changed both British Hypertension Society IV (2004)[ 2 ] and European Society of Hypertension guidelines (2003)[ 3 ] for management of hypertension.
