The highly significant difference for the SADS was probably due to the SADS’ assessment of individuals’ desire to escape and avoid being with or talking to other people, in addition to reporting feelings of being upset, tense, or anxious during social interactions. 15 These feelings are likely to be present among individuals with a strong belief that others are noticing their halitosis (even if this is not necessarily true).
