17 18 Though the majority of deaths occur in low-income countries, 19 recent reports indicate that there is an increasing trend in the incidence of PPH over time in Western countries. 20 The use of allogenic blood transfusion should be supported by sound evidence, taking into account the link between transfusion and worsening of clinical outcomes and debated efficacy. 21 22 Hence, there is a need to revise the evidence of therapeutic and diagnostic interventions for relevant outcomes in obstetrics and gynaecology in order to produce PBM-based recommendations that are suitable for clinicians and patient decision makers at the local and national level.
