Analysis of variance showed highly significant differences in the age of patients stratified according to the site of the tumour (F 3,1582 =6.7, p<0.001), and SNK range testing revealed this was due to the ‘Upper’ oesophagus group being significantly (p<0.05) different from all the other groups which were statistically indistinguishable—the identity difference is indicated in table 1 by the boxes around the median ages for each site group.
